KNOWING JESUS CHRIST AS LORD Larry Kreider TOPIC TITLE: We Serve God Because He Is God! We serve God for one reason, because He is God. Before Jesus was the Lord of my life, I saw Christianity as a type of spiritual "fire insurance." That is, I did not want to go to hell! I have met many people who want "fire insurance," but are not willing to serve Jesus as the Lord of their lives. We don't serve God for our own benefits or material gain. How ridiculous that would be. He is God! It is a privilege to serve the living God! A young man complained to me once, "God doesn''t work for me. I served God for this young girl and she doesn't want to develop a relationship!" He was not serving God because He is God, he was serving Him for selfish reasons because he was trying to use God to gain something for himself. If you are a young lady, could you imagine a guy wanting to marry you and the day before the wedding you find out he only wants to marry you because your dad owns a big company and he want to get a job - or "marry into money?" The Bible calls this idolatry. Anything that means more to me than Jesus is an idol. 1 John 5:21 says, "Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen." Examine your motivation. What is the real reason you want to serve the Lord? God knows your heart. You can''t fool Him. Examine your motivation. What is the real reason you want to serve the Lord? God knows your heart. You can't fool Him. And remember, the Lord is a gentle, loving heavenly Father. If we have a wrong motivation, He is faithful. He will reveal this to us.
