Destruction Versus Life

KNOWING JESUS CHRIST AS LORD

Day 4:  Destruction Versus Life

Someone once told D. L. Moody, an evangelist in the nineteenth century, "I only have one or two little sins.  How can God reject me?"  Moody responded to this question by giving the following illustration.  "If you are trying to pull yourself up on a roof by holding on to a chain, it only takes one weak link to cause you to fall to the ground.  The other links may be in perfect condition.  And it only takes one sin to cause us to spend eternity separated from God."

Moody was right.  God loves us but He hates sin.  Sin is like cancer.  If God left one sin in heaven, it would spread and cause destruction.  Heaven would no longer be heaven, a place of perfection.  If one of my family members had skin cancer on his arm, every time I would see it I would it.  That is how God feels about sin.  He knows that sin will destroy His people that He has created to be in fellowship with Him.  God loves us.  He does not want to destory us.  But if we stubbornly cling to our sin, we will be destroyed with it.

The devil's plan for our lives is to kill us, steal from us, and destroy us.  Look around you.  See the people that the enemy has begun to destroy.  He steals peace, joy, and hope from the lives of those the Lord has created to experience true, vibrant life.  And Jesus Christ came to give us life, abundant life, filled with enthusiasm and joy!  Jesus said it like this,

"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.'' (John 10:10)

The Bible tells us that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil!  (1 John 3:8).  It seems foolish to not want to be on God''s winning team!  Let''s choose life!

Questions to Consider:

Read John 10:10.  What does the thief come to do?  Who is the thief?  What did Jesus come to give us?  Why does God sin?  What does the want to steal from us?  Read 1 John 3:8 from your Bible.  What did Jesus come to do?  Whose team do you want to be on?
