KNOWING JESUS CHRIST AS LORD By Larry Kreider Day 4: Lord of Everything Jesus said in Luke 14:27-33: "And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it; lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.'Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." We must also count the cost, when it comes to serving Jesus Christ. If Jesus is the Lord of my life, then He is Lord of my marriage, my wallet, my family, my possessions, my future; He is Lord of everything! He means more to me than my wife and family and finances. And I have discovered that when He is Lord of these things, He gives me the proper love for my family and the wisdom to control my finances. A few years ago a Christian statesman from Switzerland was sharing with a friend what it means to be totally committed to Jesus Christ. His friend asked him, "What if you were talking to a young man who was interested in God and you told him he must give up everything for God and that man said, 'I'm not ready." Then he turned and walked down the road and was hit by a car and killed. How would you feel?" The elderly Christian gentleman said, "I would sit down and cry, then I'd pick myself up and go tell the next person the same thing." He knew that he was sharing the truth! There is nothing like grandchildren in the kingdom of God. We are all sons and daughters. When we are born again, we become children of God. Whether or not our parents served the Lord has no bearing on our eternal destiny. We are personally responsible for our own decisions regarding our relationship with the Lord.
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER: Lord of Everything: Read Luke 14:27-33. What does it mean to count the cost? If salvation is a free gift, why must we count the cost? Are there grandchildren in the kingdom of God? Explain. __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
