KNOWING JESUS CHRIST AS LORD By Larry Kreider Day 5: I'll Keep The Glove Compatment, Please Suppose I sell you my car, but I want to keep the glove compatment. You say, "That's ridiculous! The glove compartment is part of the car. If you sell me the car, it belongs to me - all of it." But that's what some people do to Jesus. They say, "Jesus, I give you my life - all but this one thing." (It may be their finances, their future, their thought life, or some sinful habit.) Can you imagine a couple getting married and the pastor asks the groom, "Do you give up all other women?" And the groom answers, "Yes, I give them all up except Sally." Do you think the bride will marry him? Of course not. She expects to have him all to herself. She wants total commitment. Jesus expects the same from us! When you put a puzzle together and one piece is missing, it''s so frustrating! Why? It''s never complete. There is no fulfillment. There are so many frustrated people today. Something is missing in their lives. But when Jesus becomes the Lord of our life, things begin to fit together. He came to give us an abundant life, filled with purpose and meaning (John 10:10). The Bible says, "And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life" (1 John 5:11-12). When we receive Jesus as our Lord, we begin to experience His life. The Lord desires for us to be excited about living! Too many Christians today walk around looking like they have been baptized in pickle juice! Just think. God has an awesome plan for your life today. But we will never walk in the fullness of what the Lord has in store for us unless we give all of our "glove compartments" to the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." Since I gave my life to Christ, I am a brand new person. My life belongs completely to Him.
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER: I''ll Keep The Glove Compartment, Please: Read 1 John 5:11-12 and 2 Corinthians 5:17. If we have the Son, what do we have? Why are many people unfilfilled? How do we sometimes try to keep "glove compartments" for ourselves? When I am in Christ, what do I become? __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
